Women have more opportunities now than previous generations did. However, our bodies haven't adapted to a societal change in deciding to have children later in life. In a recent Flare Magazine article, Rachel Giese talks about the modern woman’s dilemma -- that is having all these wonderful opportunities to travel, go to school and establish your career but then not finding the time to have children. Read more about what to consider if parenting is in your life plan too.

Excerpt from Flare Magazine: "Welcome to the modern woman’s dilemma. We have opportunities for work, travel and education that our grandmothers never imagined. Those gains in equality coupled with a pharmacy’s worth of birth control choices have granted us unprecedented control over our lives. And given that freedom, women are increasingly deferring domesticity until after other adventures. In the 1960s and ’70s, women married for the first time at 22, on average. Now it’s 29. As for getting pregnant, today the most common age to give birth is 30 to 34. That’s a big shift, reports Statistics Canada: As recently as the late ’90s, women 25 to 29 were the ones having the most babies."

In a recent Quirks and Quarks interview  on CBC, Bob McDonald speaks with Alison  Motluk about the process of egg freezing and stopping the biological clock. Have a listen.

Television journalist Maria Menounos recently went public with her decision to freeze her eggs. The 33-year old career focused 'Extra' Co-Host says "I don't think right now is the time for me," to have children. "Parenting is the most difficult job in the entire world and when I do it I want to be committed and I wanted to be 100% ready to take it on and to be the best mom I can be."

In a sit down interview with Good Morning America, Menounos revealed  that she would still try naturally if and when she decides to have children. "It doesn't mean that in two years or three years I'm not going to try naturally but at least I have this in case there's a problem."

Maria's experience of going through the egg freezing process will be documented for Dr. Drew's Lifechangers.

Do you think Maria's decision to go public with her decision to freeze her eggs will motivate other celebrities to open up about their own experiences?
