LifeQuest’s team is comprised of many hard-working, dedicated staff, some of whom work directly with patients, and others who work behind the scenes. By featuring a different staff member on our website on a regular basis we’d like to introduce you to our whole team, help you put a name to a face, and provide you with an opportunity to learn a little about the people who are working with you and your doctor to make your dream of having a family come true.
Karen Forbes and Kathy Sutherland, Reception
Born and raised in Toronto, the reception team of Karen Forbes and Kathy Sutherland have been at LifeQuest’s reception desk for seven years, greeting patients face-to-face and on the phone, answering questions, coordinating schedules, and generally making sure day-to-day activities at LifeQuest run smoothly. Why do they work so well together? Perhaps because as sisters, they’ve being helping each other out all their lives.
Acting as liaison between patients, the nurses and the lab, Karen’s calm demeanour and Kathy’s unflappable approach make them particularly well suited to their jobs. Collectively, they are able to juggle many activities at once during busy days at the clinic, including coordinating morning collections and DNA fragmentation appointments, handling patient billing, screening initial faxes for appointments with LifeQuest physicians, managing the phones, and much more. Playing a vital role in the administration of the clinic, the reception team of Karen Forbes and Kathy Sutherland are literally in the centre of things -- from administrative details to making coffee, to “doing whatever anyone wants done in the office.”
Karen’s favorite part of her busy job is seeing patients get pregnant. “I have fun working here,” she says. “I have fun everywhere I go, because I try not to let things get me down, I try to focus on the positive.”
Similarly, Kathy says the best part of her job is when patients come back to visit the clinic with their babies. She also enjoys helping people: “Recently, I received a wonderful letter from a patient thanking me for all my help, that meant a lot to me.”
Both Kathy and Karen possess an easy-going style, a quick wit and a great sense of humour, which are much appreciated by staff and patients alike at LifeQuest. After hours, Karen enjoys reading, playing computer cards, and practising the guitar. Kathy likes sewing (before LifeQuest, she ran her own sewing business), knitting, hiking and kayaking.
LifeQuest is pleased to have Kathy Sutherland and Karen Forbes as part of our patient care team.
